Notices of Non-Coverage PDF Print E-mail

Notices of Non-Coverage are used in different settings to notify Medicare beneficiaries or their representatives of the impending discharge from a facility or discontinuation of skilled services.  The type of notice determines when the beneficiary must be notified and the liability date.  In all cases, the beneficiary must be notified properly in order for the notice to be considered valid.  All notices of non-coverage must indicate the appeal rights should the beneficiary wish to appeal the provider's or the Medicare Advantage Organization's decision.

In this section, there is information concerning Hospital Notices of Non-Coverage, Fee-For-Service (BIPA) Appeals and Medicare Advantage (MA) Appeals.  Additionally, the Tools listed in each section should prove useful to understand each type of notice, as applicable to the setting.
