At AQAF we are in the business of quality--- specifically the business of improving the quality of health care. Our team of health care quality improvement professionals is dedicated to fulfilling our mission of providing value and success through quality improvement.

AQAF is a non-profit company that provides quality improvement expertise and services through contracts with federal and state governments, as well as private organizations. Through a contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), AQAF serves as Alabama's Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO).

As Alabama's QIO, AQAF works in partnership with health care professionals and organizations, government, business and consumers to improve the quality of health care for the state's 815,000 Medicare beneficiaries.

During our current 9th Scope of Work as Alabama's QIO, AQAF is focusing on:

  1. Protecting the rights of Alabama Medicare beneficiaries who are concerned about the quality of their care;
  2. Improving the safety of care in Alabama’s nursing homes and hospitals as part of the National Patient Safety Initiative;
  3. Increasing the use of screenings for breast and colon cancer and vaccinations for flu and pneumonia by maximizing the benefits of health information technology; and
  4. Coordinating care across all types of providers, settings, and levels to reduce the number of unnecessary hospital readmissions.
